Subject: Exclusive Invitation For State & Local Government Officials
Greetings from the Corporate Executive Board and Washington D.C.! The new year brings an exciting change for me, as I recently joined CEB as Executive Director of the Government Practice. I'm excited to be taking such a leadership role at this critical juncture for the public sector.
During my years serving as Mayor of Washington D.C., I was able to accomplish several important initiatives including restoring the District’s financial health, improving agency performance investing in infrastructure and human services, and creating an environment to help accelerate economic development. However, I would never have been able to accomplish these goals on my own. As Mayor, I would often tap into the knowledge of a broad array of peers to whom I could turn to seek best practices and share ideas, and this informal network was vital to my personal success.
I believe that there is great opportunity to expand our network further beyond our personal connections, and one of my roles as the Executive Director at CEB will be to do just that - to help municipal leaders collectively share their successes, and solve the most problematic challenges before us. These challenges include (but are not limited to) a looming fiscal crisis, delivering quality services to constituents with declining revenues, and dealing with a rigid labor force. I know each of you are solving these problems within your community - I hope you will join me in banding together to share what works (and what doesn’t) so that each of us can solve these problems faster, better informed, and with minimal impact on our constituents.
We are hosting a series of teleconferences over the next few months in which I will share ideas and strategies for how we can best solve our current challenges. I hope that you (or one of your designates) will be able to listen in and contribute to these conversations.
