CI Tools – The Six Thinking Hats
Posted by webmaster 28 April 2007I hear about them and I’ve read about them, but what are these hats all about ? Well first of all, and despite the name, nobody wears hats, in fact there are no actual hats at all ! The hats are simply metaphors that represent different types of thinking.
The Six Thinking Hats is a thinking technique that is used to aid participants to think in parallel and look at things from a number of different perspectives. The methodology forces us to move outside our habitual ways of thinking, and helps us to better understand the complexity of a situation and to identify issues and opportunities we not have otherwise seen.
Over the coming weeks CIN will summarise each of the associated tools used in the methodology with a view to providing a bit more background for those who might consider undertaking training in the methods for application in the workplace and life beyond work.
The CIN currently offers full day sessions in this thinking method which can be immediately transferred and practically applied within the workplace to:
- Promote fuller input from all participants,
- Reduce argument from those with divergent points of view,
- Establish clear focus and direction, and in doing so,
- Improve collaborative effort, and
- Significantly reduce the amount of time spent in meetings.
