“Eat Chocolate, Drink Alcohol & Be Lean and Healthy” by Andrew Jobling

Posted by webmaster 30 November 2007

Eat chocolate

This is not a book about dieting and weight loss. It is a clear and very easy read that explains that there is nothing wrong with drinking of alcohol and eating of chocolate (in moderation) as a long as it is a part of a long term strategy for our bodies (& lives.)

Getting energised and in shape does not mean having to give up all of those things you enjoy.

There is a strong focus on nutrition and the types of nutrition we need at various times of the day to extract the greatest benefit. Included also, is a chapter dedicated to “Shopping for success” which helps increase understanding of food and what food labels tell us (and often what they do not tell us!)

Author Andrew Jobling, a health and fitness expert and former St Kilda footballer describes in plain terms how our metabolism and blood sugar levels are affected by various foods at different times of the day and how a simple appreciation of the Glycaemic Index can help us in our quest to be lean and healthy. The book also contains a wealth of recipes, menus and information on how different foods impact on our bodies and strategies for dealing with negative influences.

There is also a handy tips section which includes a timely guide to eating during the festive season. On this score, the CIN has 6 copies of the book on offer as prizes at our Dec 13 Christmas session at the Treasury Theatre.

Also watch this space for an announcement on author, Andrew Jobling making a special presentation to the CIN next year, and a corresponding programme where VPS employee is turned against VPS employee, in a battle of the Departments Health and Fitness showdown !

Review kindly provided by CIN member, Sandra Myerscough.
