Network Narrative (14)
Posted by webmaster 9 August 2008Hunter and collector of great ideas: Although I have attended a few specific workshops, my main involvement with the VPSCIN is in the lunchtime seminar series, which I find to be very stimulating (due to great speakers) and the good chance to network with peers from other departments. As a hunter of collector of good [...]

I’m more resilient: There has been no distinct applications at this stage but knowing that I have absorbed a lot of new learnings I feel better equipped to handle the challenges we are having thrown at us daily. As an example I applied some of the resilience principles we [...]

Lean Application: We have applied some of the lean principles to streamline a couple of our processes. To date the principal saving has been in time. Some have been reluctant to uptake the new elements of the process as they prefer to do the things the way [...]

Posted by webmaster 7 July 2008The Six Thinking Hats provide clarity: Having done the Six Thinking Hats training I now apply this to my thinking back at work, mostly in staff meetings. It has allowed a greater diversity of views and more clarity around topic areas, particularly with issues where there are strongly held views and we seem to be [...]

Posted by webmaster 27 June 2008Lateral thinking to reduce recidivism: Many of the workshops have helped me to gain a wider perspective and gain some expert knowledge. For example a recent seminar with the de Bono tools helped me to understand the importance of thinking as a skill in helping keep people out of jail!
Effort Appreciated: The network put considerable [...]

Inspiration from the web: I open the website looking for inspiration about approaching work (and to a lesser extent personal life) with greater energy, innovation and ideas to work in a more creative and lively way. Many of the articles give snippets of new or alternative [...]

Posted by webmaster 14 May 2008Narrative from the CIN impact evaluation conducted in 2007.
Different pathways in Sense-making and Complexity: I am constantly seeking ideas and practical examples of continuous improvement initiatives that have worked in other organisations. I am also interested in seeking out what may be considered by some to be failed attempts but which are rich in learning.
I’ve [...]

Narrative taken from the CIN Impact Evaluation 2007.
A life-line of information: The CIN site has been useful as being in the Latrobe Valley we now have an additional life-line to what is going on in the big smoke. Not only do we learn from our own department, but from what is happening in others [...]

My Experience: “Whilst I have only attended one workshop to date, I did find it quite enjoyable and worthwhile. The only thing I don’t like about the workshops is that they always seem to be on a Friday, which is not good [...]

Posted by webmaster 1 April 2008The 2nd was with the Commissioner of the State Revenue Office, who spoke about “Organisational Self Esteem” which was also very useful, although the concepts of which he spoke are only useful if senior leaders buy-in (and I can’t see ours doing that.) … As far as I know this was the very first government blog and I reckon we would benefit from a few more across departments in specific subject matter areas such as Human Resources, OH&S, and Leadership.” a

Changes in my thinking: “I attended my 1st CIN session last year on the recommendation of a work colleague and found it to be highly beneficial. There were a number of new ideas put forward around the field of knowledge [...]
